on sharing…
as an artist in a bounded medium (lol), i’m constantly grasping at the wisps and remnants of creative connection and energy that comes after a session ends, floating down in the air like shards of material after a spontaneous combustion. the fact that someone and something was there - real and within my grasp - and gone, from one moment to the next, has always been what both draws me in and pains me about my practice. to remedy the fleetingness i take photos during my sessions. the photographic evidence that something happened is an important part of my artistic process. i come back to them after each session, each image adding to the story of my evolution as an artist and my connection with those that create with me. it took me a while to reflect upon these images with this simplicity, instead of scrutinizing small details of “wrong” or “what could be better,” which then made sharing my art confusing: if i am looking at my own work like this, of course everyone else is as well…right? as it turns out: not really. we truly are our own biggest critic. so i shall share.
my desire for my art has always been to create a digital portfolio of my work that can be both easily accessed by others and a standalone body of work that represents my development as an artist. i can’t really do that type of sharing on instagram with the ever-present meta bots, and i have a hard time posting consistently on any other platform. so i have resolved to share here. even if no one really sees or hears what I have to offer, i will share for myself. if you see this, I hope you enjoy.
while you can see my portfolio in the gallery section of my site, i will be slowly uploading full photo sets of sessions to create an archive of my work. you can check them out here.
